Chiropractic - Is It Financially Beneficial?

With yearly healthcare insurance premium increases, Chiropractic Care has become increasingly popular in treating injury, receiving care quickly, and injury/illness prevention. This is a motivating factor as to why OPS Clinics has adopted a model that includes medical and chiropractic services.

Today, we discuss how Chiropractic Services save you money, and how effective this Research Based approach is.

..of all diseases and risk factors.. musculoskeletal conditions.. affect more than 1.7 billion people worldwide.

According to the studies provided by boneandjointburden.org, recognized that “musculoskeletal disorders and diseases are the leading cause of physical disability in the country.”

Research to statement:

  • Weinstein S: 2000–2010: The Bone and Joint Decade. J Bone Joint Surg Am 2000;82:1-3.

  • A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America: National Bone and Joint Decade Proclamation: National Bone and Joint Decade, 2002–2011. Office of the Press Secretary, 2002.

Chiropractic Physicians are at the forefront for treating Musculoskeletal Injuries on a daily basis through stimulating receptors of the Nervous System. The nervous system innervates all of the muscles that allow for voluntary control of the body. Through Chiropractic Adjustments and Rehabilitation, Chiropractic Physicians can quickly manipulate and improve disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

Did You Know?

Did you know the most common reason for people to miss work is due to back pain? Your long term outcomes and health cost may be determined simply by what kind of profession or specialty you see first. Since 75-80% of people experience back pain in their lives, here is an example, of how conservative care may actually result in better outcomes and less of a financial burden for you or a business.

A Common Question: Who should I see First?

According to the Spine Journal, researchers discovered that the health-care provider played a significant role in whether a patient underwent surgery or not. In other words, your chances of getting surgery do not depend on whether you in fact need it; but what type of doctor you see first.

For patients who first saw a medical physician for their back pain, 42.7% eventually ended up in the operating room. Whereas, just 1.5% of patients who first saw a chiropractor had surgery.

Nearly all of chiropractic patients were able to avoid spine surgery through natural, conservative treatments.

This particular observation actually adds to earlier studies suggesting that chiropractic can reduce your likelihood of surgery. In a 2010 Clinical trial comparing microdiscectomy and spinal adjustments for sciatica, 60% of chiropractic patients had significant improvements without needing surgery.

Most Common Musculoskeletal Disorders treated by Chiropractic Physicians

  • Tendinopathies - epicondylitis, trigger finger, Achilles Tendinitis, Bicipital Tendinitis, Patellar Tendinitis, etc.

  • Postural Abnormalities- Upper and Lower Cross Syndrome, Biomechanics Retraining, etc.

  • Myofascial Pain Syndromes - IT Band Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, etc.

  • Entrapment Syndromes - Carpal Tunnel, thoracic outlet syndrome, Sciatica, etc.

  • Ligament Pain - Chronic and acute ankle sprains, etc.

  • Scar Tissue/Adhesions - mature post-surgical scarring, etc.

  • Edema Reduction - acute swelling, lymphedema, etc.

  • Discal Injury - Mild to Moderate Disc Herniations, etc.

Chiropractic Physicians and the Diagnostic Process

It is important to understand that Chiropractic Physicians are trained and educated on disease and injury very similar to the way your Family Practice Medical Doctor is trained.

Chiropractic Physicians can make referrals for any imaging, tests, while also perform many of the same physical exams. If you have a serious condition that needs referral to a specialist, Chiropractic Physicians will make the referral similar to how your Family Practice Medical Doctor would make a referral.

What is different between the two practitioners is the treatment approach for different disorders. OPS Clinics tends to take a neurobiomechanical approach, while Medical Doctors take a medicinal approach. Both have their time and place for care, however, conservative approaches are much less expensive with similar outcomes.
